About this workshop
Before photography, before screens, before the constant movement of images, artists sat in front of objects and looked. Really looked. On the way light falls on the curve of a fruit. At the shadow a bottle casts. At the difference between what you think something looks like and what it actually is.
This workshop invites you into that practice. A composition of everyday objects is placed at the centre of the room. You observe it. You translate it onto canvas. You discover, in the process, something about attention and patience and the relationship between the eye and the hand.
You do not need to be an artist. You need only to be willing to look.
Whatever emerges on your canvas is a record of that looking, honest, imperfect, and entirely your own.
It is about learning to truly see what's already in front of you. I place an object at the centre of the room and invite participants to slow down and really look, the way light wraps around it, the shadows it casts, the colours hiding in plain sight. I guide everyone with patience over perfection, and I hope they leave with not just a painting, but a new way of finding beauty in the ordinary.
